Estrogen Blocker & Aromatase Inhibitor Info

What is an estrogen blocker?

Estrogen blockers are products/compounds that block the actions of estrogen. The most common estrogen blockers when it comes to the hardcore bodybuilding world are SERMs and Aromatase Inhibitors.

Why should I use an estrogen blocker?

As men, we are supposed to have estrogen, and our bodies naturally regulate our estrogen levels to keep it in proportion with our testosterone levels. If you are training hard, your body will naturally produce more testosterone, but unfortunately sometimes your body will convert some of that testosterone into estrogen.

If you are cycling prohomormones, taking an estrogen blocker becomes even more important. The reason for this is that when you are on a prohormone your body senses that your testosterone levels are high, regardless if it is natural testosterone or synthetic (prohormone). Your body naturally wants to keep your hormones balanced, so as a response to this your body will signal the release of an enzyme known as “Aromatase” which will convert testosterone to estrogen. Too much estrogen will lead to undesirable side effects like gynecomastia (gyno) and low sex drive.

Additionally, drinking alcohol can stimulate the production of estrogen, aside from the harshness on your liver, this is one of the major reasons why we strongly suggest that you do not drink alcohol during your cycle and PCT.

What is an aromatase inhibitor (AI)?

An aromatase inhibitor is a compound that binds itself to the aromatase enzyme and prevents it from converting androgens like testosterone into estrogen.

What is a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM)?

SERMs essentially regulate how your body handles estrogen, blocking some and allowing others.

Should I use an aromatase inhibitor or a SERM?

We will only suggest what is legal for you, and the only way to legally get a SERM is for it to be prescribed by a doctor. Trans Resveratrol is one of the few known ingredients which can be considered a natural SERM and is 100% legal, this ingredient can be found in some Post Cycle Therapy products such as Post Cycle 3X by Vital Labs. Aromatase inhibitors are 100% legal and proven to be extremely effective in fighting estrogen. Check out our Top 5 Estrogen Blockers to help you find the right one for you.

When do I use an estrogen blocker?

In terms of prohormones, many people go different routes. Some people will take one during their cycle and during their PCT, and then there are some people that use an estrogen blocker in just their cycle or just in their PCT. If you know you are someone who is gyno prone, it is best to use an estrogen blocker during your cycle and PCT.

If you are doing a cycle with one or two prohormones and running it at the recommended dosages you can usually get away with not using an estrogen blocker during your cycle. In regards to PCT, all of the PCT's we carry have estrogen reducing ingredients, so it is optional in regards stacking an estrogen blocker with your PCT.

Keep in mind that just because the prohormone you are taking does not convert to estrogen, that does not mean that your body will not convert or produce any estrogen.

When running stronger cycles such as 3 prohormones or more we suggest that you take an estrogen blocker during your cycle as you will have very high amount of hormones in your body which greatly increases the likelihood of your body converting or producing estrogen. If your prohormone stack has Epistane in it using an estrogen blocker during cycle is not entirely necessary as Epistane inhibits estrogen.

Again, all of the PCT's we carry have estrogen blocking/reducing ingredients in them so stacking with an estrogen blocker is at your discretion.

Here are some ingredients to look for in regards to reducing estrogen:

Trans Resveratrol – When taken in high dosages (600mg+) this herbal extract will aid in estrogen blocking, estrogen balance, anti-aging, balancing your immune system, boosts cellular energy, and provides anti-oxidant protection.

Chrysin – This is a marginally effective ingredient for estrogen reduction and should only be used in conjunction with other estrogen blocking ingredients.

Indol-3-Carbinol – This is a very effective anti-estrogen compound derived from Cruciferous Vegetables aka Super Veggies. Indol-3-Carbinol attacks estrogen at the liver and converts strong estrogen into good and less harsh estrogen.

6-OXO aka 4-Androstene 3,6,17-trione – A suicide aromatase inhibitor that permanently binds itself to the aromatase enzyme, preventing in from converting testosterone into estrogen. Extremely effective ingredient.

Formestane aka 4-hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3 17-dione – A non-suppressive aromatase inhibitor that helps increase the testosterone-estrogen ratio.

Arimistane aka Androsta-3 5-diene-7 17-dione – One of the most popular ingredients on the market, Arimistane is a suicide aromatase inhibitor and also decreases cortisol levels.

6 Bromo aka 6-Bromoandrostenedione - This compound binds to the aromatase enzyme and actually prevents it from converting androgens to estrogen. Additionally, 6 Bromo aids in normalizing your estrogen levels.
